Interactive wall for Volkswagen at IAA

Agency: VOLKE Kommunikations-Design GmbH, Rayd GmbH

For this year’s International Auto Show, the biggest automotive event of the planet, the German agencies VOLKE Kommunikations-Design GmbH and Rayd created the largest multitouch wall installation in the world.

Volke, as the main contractor, was responsible for the planning, coordination, technical configuration and the customer liason and comfort of the whole installation, whereas the Rayd GmbH developed the Ventuz presentations and the laser interface.

The result is magic in numbers: a width of 30,000 pixels, 30 meters of interactive display wall, over 200 OmniShape displays – the installation on the booth of Volkswagen might have been the number one stunner at this internationally acclaimed event, if it hadn’t been for all the pretty cars.

The installation consisted of five individual stations. Visitors could find all details on new engines – from combustion engines to electrical drives - and their many hidden secrets. At one station they could enter information on how they use their cars and were given advice on which Volkswagen technology might be adequate for them. The “Think Blue.“ wall showed all activities of the “Think Blue.“ department of Volkswagen around the world, using slide shows, videos, and multi channel audio, all embedded into the realtime 3D environment.

Interactivity was provided by the new Hummingbird Laser System, an in-house development of Rayd GmbH.
